How do you cut returns and stop the orders that come back?

Returns are pure lost money: a sale you already won, gone, plus the shipping both ways. Here is how to bring them down.

A return costs you the sale you already won plus the shipping both ways, and then someone has to inspect, repack, and restock it. The good news is that most of it is preventable, and the fixes stack.

  1. Step 1: know why they come back

Most returns are wrong size or not as pictured. Look at your actual return reasons and fix the top one first, because a handful of causes usually drive most of the leak.

  2. Step 2: sell the right thing the first time

Clear photos, real sizing, and honest descriptions cut the wrong-size return before it happens. Most returns are decided at the product page, not at the doorstep.

  3. Step 3: stop the risky orders before they ship

Screen orders for fraud and address problems, so the shaky ones wait for your call instead of shipping straight into a chargeback or an undeliverable parcel.

  4. Step 4: make the return itself pay you back

Offer an exchange or store credit before a refund, and restock fast so a returned item sells again. A clean returns experience is a big reason people buy from you a second time.

Do this

Read your real return reasons, fix product pages to prevent wrong-size returns, screen risky orders before shipping, and steer returns toward exchanges.

You get

Fewer parcels come back, so more of the sales you already won turn into money you actually keep.
